Privacy Policy — QuickSplit

This Privacy Policy explains what data QuickSplit (the "App") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using the App, you agree to this policy.

1. Summary (TL;DR)

• Your bills, items, and people stay on your device. They are stored in local app storage (SharedPreferences) and never uploaded to our servers.
• Receipt photos are processed on your device by Google ML Kit. The image bytes are not sent to any server.
• We collect anonymous app analytics (Firebase Analytics) and crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics) to fix bugs and improve the App. We do not operate a separate process to delete those records on request; uninstall stops new collection, and Google applies its own retention (see Sections 5–6).
• No in-app advertisements in current releases (Play Store builds as of this policy date). Section 2.5 describes what would apply if ads are added later.

2. Data we process

2.1 Data that stays on your device only

The following data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to us or to any third party:

• Receipt items, prices, and totals you capture or enter manually
• Names of people you add to a split
• Currency selection and recently used currencies
• Saved split history (the "Split History" list)
• Generated receipts/PDFs you create
• Copies of receipt photos linked to a saved split (stored in the App’s private storage on your device)

This data is removed when you delete a split in the App, when you use Clear data for the App in Android settings, or when you uninstall the App.

2.2 Camera & photos

• The App requests camera access so you can photograph a paper receipt for automatic line-item extraction.
• The App requests access to device photos so you can pick an existing receipt image from your gallery.
• Photos are processed on your device using Google ML Kit Text Recognition. The image is not uploaded to QuickSplit servers and is not sent to any cloud OCR service.
• When you scan or pick a receipt, the App may save a copy of that image on your device so it can appear in split history and exports. That file stays on your device until you delete the related split, clear the App’s data, or uninstall.

2.3 Anonymous analytics (Firebase Analytics)

To understand how the App is used and prioritize improvements, we use Google Firebase Analytics, which collects:

• Screen views and in-app navigation events
• Approximate session duration and frequency of use
• App version, device model, operating system version, language, and country (derived from device locale and IP, not stored)
• A randomly generated Firebase App Instance ID per installation (a new identifier typically applies after you clear the App’s data or reinstall)

Analytics events do not contain the contents of your receipts, the names you enter, receipt image files, or any free-text input.

2.4 Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)

If the App crashes, we automatically collect a diagnostic report containing:

• Stack trace and exception details
• Device model, OS version, app version, available memory
• A random installation UUID (no link to your identity)

Crash data lets us reproduce and fix bugs. It does not include the contents of your splits, photos, or saved data.

Crash reporting is disabled in debug builds and only active in release builds installed from the Play Store.

2.5 Advertising (not in current releases)

Current releases do not show advertisements. We do not integrate Google AdMob or other ad SDKs in the App today, which matches our Google Play declaration that the App does not contain ads.

If we add advertising in a future version, we will update this policy (and the Play Store listing) before or when that version ships. Ads would likely be served through a provider such as Google AdMob and may involve an Advertising ID, device metadata, ad interaction events, and consent or privacy choices where required (for example in the EEA or UK). Any ad-related processing would not include receipt contents, names you enter for splits, or other Section 2.1 data.

2.6 What we do NOT collect

• We do not currently display in-app advertisements (see Section 2.5).
• We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any account credentials (the App has no sign-up or login).
• We do not access your contacts, location, microphone, calendar, or SMS.
• We do not scan or upload other photos in your gallery beyond the one you explicitly pick.

3. Legal basis (GDPR / UK GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal basis for processing analytics and crash data is your consent (where required) and our legitimate interest in maintaining and improving the App. If we introduce advertising in a future version, we will rely on the appropriate lawful bases (typically consent where required) and describe them in an updated policy. You can stop analytics and crash collection by uninstalling the App or by following Section 5.

4. Sharing & third parties

We share data only with the service providers listed below, and only to the extent strictly necessary to operate the App:

We do not sell or rent your data to advertisers, brokers, or any other third party.

5. Your choices

• Delete local data (splits, history, preferences): delete individual splits in the App, or remove all local data via Android Settings → Apps → QuickSplit → Storage → Clear data, or uninstall the App.
• Stop analytics & crash reporting: uninstall the App. New analytics and crash events are not sent after uninstall. We do not provide a developer-operated channel to delete past analytics or crash records held by Google on your behalf.
• Data held by Google (Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics): retained according to Google’s product defaults (see Section 6). For how Google handles privacy and account-level controls, see Google’s Privacy Policy and Firebase Privacy. Clearing the App’s data or reinstalling typically assigns a new Firebase App Instance ID on that device; it does not erase historical analytics or crash records already stored by Google.

6. Data retention

• Local app data (including saved receipt image copies): retained until you delete the split in-app, clear the App’s data, or uninstall.
• Firebase Analytics: event-level data is retained according to the project default (currently 14 months) and then aggregated.
• Firebase Crashlytics: crash records are retained for 90 days from the last occurrence.

7. Children's privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the App, contact us and we will assist with removal.

8. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data in transit (TLS) and at rest within services we use (including Firebase). However, no system is perfectly secure; you use the App at your own risk.

9. International transfers

Firebase and other Google services we use may process data in data centers located outside your country, including the United States and the European Union. Google maintains Standard Contractual Clauses and other safeguards as described in Google’s and Firebase’s privacy documentation linked above.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent revision. Material changes will be highlighted in the App's release notes.
